About Us

My name is Matt, and I have been passionate about fitness for nearly 20 years. As a professional Firefighter/Paramedic and Certified Personal Trainer, getting in shape (and staying there) isn’t optional, especially when lives are on the line. I do consider myself extremely lucky to have a gym in the firehouse. But I prefer working out at home, where I can go all in, not waiting for the tones to go off at any moment.
As you know, COVID-19 threw a major wrench into the gears when gyms closed for almost 2 years, then had strict masking, cleaning, and space restrictions. When they finally reopened without restrictions, they were so jam-packed that I ended up spending more time waiting in line for a piece of equipment than actually using it.
**Home Gym has entered the chat.**
Out of necessity, I had to create a space in our house to get a gym-quality workout at home. I quickly discovered that the amount of low-quality, self-serving information available online was overwhelming. After countless hours of research, consultation with other personal trainers, and hands-on experience with different equipment, I came to learn what worked for me, within my budget and available space.
Our goal at Home Fit Headquarters is to help you save a little time and frustration by providing quality workout information, nutritional expertise, and equipment reviews that are to the point, honest, and judged by the same standards I use for my own equipment. We would never recommend a product on this site that we wouldn’t buy ourselves or recommend to a friend.
Cardio has always been a struggle of mine. I love lifting but always had to force myself to get on the treadmill. Now that I’m in my (extremely) late 30s, I’ve come to terms with the necessity of cardio and made it my mission to find quality equipment. At 6′ tall, 220 lbs, with the grace of an elephant, I really put treadmills to the test. I’ve been on treadmill belts that slip so often, I can see a cheap machine a mile away! I will do my best to pass that information on to you.
With the help of my wife, who is a great cook and all-around food, health, and nutrition enthusiast, we post healthy meal recipes that not only taste great but have the stamp of approval from our 3 kids!
All exercise posts are from personal experience, and from trainers and therapists I’ve grown to trust over the years. I’ve successfully recovered from ACL and Meniscus surgical repair, and owe it all to these exceptional professionals – my go-to sources for anything exercise and rehabilitation.
Thank you for joining our community!

The Team:
Mandy
Hi there, I’m Mandy!

I am Matt’s wife, and together we have 3 school-age kids. Health and fitness became an important part of my life after giving birth to my son, our second child. When the pregnancy weight didn’t come off despite a year of breastfeeding, I was desperate to feel like myself again. Nutrition and meal prep is a significant part of my life, as I do the majority of the grocery shopping and meal prep in our family. Creating healthy meals for my family gives me a sense of control in this chaotic world. I know what is going into my body, how much, and the effect that food has on me. I love to cook…and eat!
I have worked in healthcare for over 14 years. I am a busy mom and professional, so meals that are quick, healthy, and family-friendly are a must. Sneaking in a workout in the morning before work, in the evening after the kids go to bed, or between meetings in my home office, has really demonstrated the value of our home gym. With 3 kids in competitive sports and activities, the flexibility and accessibility of our home gym fit seamlessly into our busy schedules, now more than ever before!
Cheers to eating good food every day!
Mandy
